CLIMATE WEEK

In response to the 2019 Global Climate Strike, SCAD Net Impact (for which I was President), teamed up with the Design for Sustainability department to create a physical and digital campaign called Climate Week. We highlighted a different Climate Change solution each day selected from Project Drawdown’s scientifically based list of most effective solutions for the next few years.

I headed up the first day which was bike day. We of course had an emphasis on biking to school or work that day and offered recycled paper stickers to anyone who met us at the bike racks. We also engaged student with question about what motivates them to bike and what their major (interior design, writing, etc) can do to promote bike culture. These thoughtful interactions promoted the normalization of biking for different demographics and helped students see how to expand their impact.

Actual Student Responses

The entire week drew interest and participation from students all across campus, and resulted in increased interest in the Design for Sustainability program and clubs that lingers today.
